Kanye West believes only he could beat Kendrick Lamar in a rap battle
Kanye West has claimed that only he could beat Kendrick Lamar in a rap battle following his feud with Drake last year. The Chicago native appeared on Justin LaBoy’s The Download podcast this week and claimed that K.Dot was the clear winner of his beef with Drizzy.
Ye heaped high praise on Kendrick, calling him the best when it comes to spitting bars and comparing him to a character on Street Fighter.
“If you rap against Kendrick, you will lose,” he said. “This man does this. You know on Street Fighter, you get like a Chun-Li, you get a certain kick, and no matter what, you can’t beat that thing. Joe Budden said, ‘Never rap against Kendrick Lamar.’ If you rap against Kendrick Lamar, it’s a difficult task, but perhaps there’s something — I’m a psycho genius so it could be…”
When LaBoy said, “There you have it: do not rap against Kendrick Lamar,” Kanye replied, “Unless you’re a psycho genius like me.”
In another part of the interview, Ye agreed that Kendrick “killed Drake” and that he was “dead.” Kanye stated, “Yeah, for now. You can’t ever count out Steph Curry. That man might get 200 points in one song or something. Drake added something to the algorithm, to our frequency. He advanced it. Future advanced it, and now Kendrick is advancing the frequency.”
West also joked that Kendrick destroyed his enemy. “He took down my nemesis for me, or at least took him down for a little bit,” he said. “You know in superhero films, maybe one of the characters, Wolverine or something, just goes away for a couple films.”
He continued to laud Kendrick, warning rappers to up their game as lyricists. “When Twista came out, there were rappers that didn’t learn, but then Jay-Z learned,” he said. “If you don’t really learn as just a professional rapper, as a sport, what Kendrick is doing, you might be wiped. You might be wiped out.”
Kanye collaborated with Kendrick in 2016 on ‘No More Parties in L.A.’ from his Life of Pablo album. However, he previously claimed that they have 40 unreleased songs together.
