Kanye West is now the most-streamed artist on Spotify ahead of 'Donda 2'

Kanye West has become the most-streamed artist on Spotify ahead of the release of Donda 2.

The album was muted for release on February 22nd; however, the finalised version of the record is yet to drop despite Ye sharing 16 tracks from Donda 2 on his Stem Player device, and it remains to be seen when the full LP will drop.

The anticipation surrounding the new record has helped Ye become the most streamed artist on Spotify in the United States along with the hype around his Netflix documentary, Jeen-Yuhs.

Despite Kanye’s initial scepticism around the three-part film, it’s helped his audience see him in a whole new light and also made people go back to revisit his earlier material which the documentary focuses on.

While there’s been an increased demand for West’s work with Donda 2 imminent, it won’t be arriving on Spotify, and instead, it will be exclusively available on his Stem Player device.

The device, which Kanye’s own Yeezy Tech enterprise manufactures, and retails for $200, has unsurprisingly seen sales go through the roof since he announced the record.

Previously revealing his decision on Instagram, Ye said: “Today artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes. It’s time to free music from this oppressive system. It’s time to take control and build our own.”
