Kanye West undoubtedly ended 2022 with a bang. He got himself blackballed from hip-hop, banned from social media and had all his fashion endorsements and various deals terminated. His antics culminated in his net worth depleting by four billion dollars.
However, luckily for Kanye, he is no stranger to making headlines. Over the years, the Chicago rapper and entrepreneur has become a known agent of chaos and, nowadays, is perceived more as an idiot savant than a genius. However, despite his idiocy, Ye remains a deity to his fans and has a bitter-sweet relationship with his hip-hop peers. Still, there’s one musician who quite admires him, and that is pop queen Madonna, who once labelled him a “beautiful mess.”
Over the years, the two musicians have publicly developed mutual respect and are always showing each other a great deal of support. Madonna has openly praised West, and he has always done the same for her. Speaking to director Steve McQueen for Interview magazine, the outspoken rapper held the singer in high regard as he proclaimed, “Madonna, I think, is the greatest visual musical artist that we’ve ever had,”
The rapper elaborated on his claim, explaining, “If you look at her photo log, the photographers that she was able to work with throughout her career framed her in the proper way. It was the proper context. It was that visual that made sure that everything was gonna cut through in a certain way.”
Madonna is highly aware of West’s antics and made clear she doesn’t agree with everything he says and does but again had to highlight that extremely common perception that he is an idiot savant of sorts. Speaking to Rollingstone magazine, the singer admitted, “It’s really hard to describe Kanye in one sentence, so I may have to use several.” Still, her ultimate opinion was that “He’s a brilliant madman. I don’t always agree with the things he says or does. I don’t always like his music, even. But he’s a beautiful mess. I love him.”
The two musicians have collaborated before, most notably on Madonna’s 2008 single ‘Beat Goes On’. Although the beat for the track was produced by The Neptunes, Kanye West contributed to the production and features on the track with vocals. Explaining the frustrating process of being in the studio with West, Madonna divulged, “He would drive me bonkers because he’s got so many things going on in his life. And this seemed to be the theme of my record, working with people who can’t get off their phone, can’t stop tweeting, can’t focus and finish a song. It drove me crazy. But when he did pay attention, it was brilliant!!!”
