Kanye West & Dr. Dre both earn first Emmy nominations

Kanye West and Dr. Dre are both in contention at the Emmy Awards after both receiving their first nominations. Dre has been nominated alongside 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige and Eminem for their performance during this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.

It was an iconic showing from the collection of rappers and richly deserves to be up for an Emmy in the ‘Outstanding Sound Mixing’ for a ‘Variety Series or Special’ category.

Meanwhile, Coodie & Chike’s three-part Netflix documentary, Jeen-Yuhs documentary charting the beginning of the career of Kanye West. The film is nominated in the ‘Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series’ category.

Yeezy receives a nod for Jeen-Yuhs because he was listed as an executive producer on the series. It is the first time in Ye’s decorated career he has been up for an Emmy.

Meanwhile, Donald Glover is nominated for ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series’ for his portrayal of Earnest Marks in Atlanta. Furthermore, the show will also compete in ‘Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour)’ and ‘Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series’.

Atlanta returned earlier this year on FX and Hulu after a four-year hiatus, with the final series of the programme set to air next year.
