Kanye West reveals he’s autistic after wrong bipolar diagnosis

Kanye West has revealed he’s autistic after claiming a doctor previously diagnosed him with bipolar disorder. Ye appeared on the latest episode of Justin LaBoy’s The Download this week, where he opened up about his mental health issues.

The Chicago rapper credited his wife, Bianca Censori, with helping him get the correct diagnosis after she told him that she didn’t recognise bipolar in his personality.

“I went to this doctor, one who worked with Justin Bieber, one that worked with- I’m not even gonna name other names and stuff,” he said. “My wife took me to do that because she said, ‘Something about your personality doesn’t feel like it’s bipolar. I’ve seen bipolar before.’ She’s educated.”

From there, Kanye found out that he’s autistic, citing his behaviour towards Donald Trump and how he approaches his albums.

“Come to find out, it’s really a case of autism that I have,” he admitted. “Autism takes you to a Rain Man thing where you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna wear this Trump hat because I just like Trump in general.’ Then when people tell you to not do it, you just get on that one point.”

He added, “And that’s my problem: when fans tell me to do my album a certain way, I’ll do it the opposite way. Just because, ‘La, la, la, la, I got my money right. You can’t tell me [nothing].'”

Ye previously claimed he was misdiagnosed in November 2022, claiming he nearly lost his mind due to the amount of drugs he was being forced to take. “What should be obvious by now is that I was raised to stand for my truth regardless of the consequences,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) at the time. “So I will say this again: I was mentally misdiagnosed and nearly drugged out of my mind to make me a manageable well behaved celebrity.”

Kanye broke down at a rally in South Carolina when he was running for president in 2020. His ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, claimed he had bipolar disorder while addressing his actions. “As many of you know, Kanye has bipolar disorder,” she wrote on Instagram. “Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand.”
