Kanye West announces huge New Orleans concert

Kanye West has announced that he’ll be performing in New Orleans later this year.

Ye has been touring across the world in support of his Bully album, despite backlash from local figures over his past antisemitic comments.

On July 9th, the Chicago rapper announced that he will be throwing a concert at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The 83,000-capacity event is set to take place on August 28th.

Kanye’s upcoming schedule includes shows in Albania, Spain, and Portugal, before returning to the US with shows in New Orleans and Chicago.

So far this year, he’s performed in Mexico, Turkey, the Netherlands, and Georgia, as well as North American shows in Inglewood, Tampa, and San Antonio.

The San Antonio concert took place after criticism from San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz, who called for the show to be cancelled.

“I support cancelling the @kanyewest concert,” she wrote on social media. “Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome – not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation’s 250th birthday.”

However, the San Antonio City Council denied her request while condemning antisemitism, hate, and division. “The City does not endorse his rhetoric by allowing use of a public venue, just as a public library does not endorse every book’s viewpoint simply by carrying it,” they said.

Earlier this year, Ye was banned from the UK after being announced as the three-day headliner for London’s Wireless Festival.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, “Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless. This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism. We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values.”
