Kanye West accused of punching man unconscious in California
Kanye West has been sued for allegedly knocking out a man at the Chateau Marmont in California.
The alleged incident took place at the West Hollywood hotel on April 16th, 2024, at around 11pm.
According to the lawsuit, obtained by People, Ye went up to a man at his table in the hotel’s garden and “without warning, punched [him] in the face.”
The anonymous man claims he was knocked to the ground and “hit his head and lost consciousness.” Kanye is also accused of continuing to attack the man as he was lying unconscious on the floor.
The man claims he did nothing wrong and that Kanye “falsely accused” him of “engaging in offensive and inappropriate conduct toward a woman in [West’s] party” in the days after the incident.
The suit reads, “The evidence, including video recordings from the scene, proves that [John Doe] did not engage in any inappropriate or offensive conduct with a woman in [West’s] party, or anyone else.”
The suit was filed on March 13th, with Ye accused of battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
In a statement, the alleged victim’s lawyer, Robert Shapiro, said “The complaint speaks for itself and the reason we filed it under John Doe is that we wanted to give anonymity to the parties and see if the matter could be resolved confidentially in mediation.”
A former security guard recently sued Kanye for almost $1 million. Jonathan Monroe claimed to have worked for Ye in 2021 and alleged that he wasn’t paid his full wages or given overtime pay.
He asked for around $850,000 in damages, consisting of $7,725 for unpaid overtime, $37,620 in lost wages, $500,000 in lost earnings, $100,000 for pain and suffering, and $100,000 in punitive damages.
