Kanye West sued for almost $1 million by ex-security guard
Kanye West has been sued by his former security guard for nearly $1 million.
A man named Jonathan Monroe, who claims to have worked full-time for Ye in 2021, alleges he wasn’t paid his full wages and given overtime pay.
According to TMZ, Monroe is asking for around $850,000 in damages, consisting of $7,725 for unpaid overtime, $37,620 in lost wages, $500,000 in lost earnings, $100,000 for pain and suffering, and $100,000 in punitive damages.
Monroe alleges that he tried to collect the money owed to him but failed in his attempt. One time, he claims that Kanye asked him to put petrol in his Lamborghini and refused to pay for it.
“When I asked for cash or use of his credit card to cover the expense, [Kanye] walked away from me without a response,” he said.
The lawsuit comes just days after it was announced that Ye had been banned from entering the UK over his antisemitic comments. As a result, his three-day headlining slots at London’s Wireless Festival were cancelled.
Speaking after he was banned, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, “Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless. This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism.”
In his statement, he added, “We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values.”
Ye faced another lawsuit from a former employee earlier this year. In March, a construction project manager and security guard named Tony Saxon was awarded $140,000 for past and future medical expenses, along with past pain and suffering.
