Judge blocks prison release for Jam Master Jay’s convicted killer

A judge has stopped the release of one of the men convicted of killing Jam Master Jay.

The Run-DMC member’s godson, Karl Jordan Jr, was set for release on April 10th on a $1 million bond, but the judge stepped in at the last minute to block his release.

According to NBC 4 New York, federal prosecutors appealed the judge’s decision to grant him bond with electronic monitoring, which he agreed to put on hold.

In December, US District Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall acquitted Jordan Jr, one of two men convicted of killing the hip-hop legend.

In a statement after the overturned conviction, Jordan’s lawyer, John Diaz, said, “We are really happy for Mr Jordan and his family that justice was served. Despite the verdict, he remains in prison on drug charges.”

Shortly after, prosecutors challenged the acquittal, with Jordan and Ronald Washington only being convicted in 2024.

Reacting to the news, DMC said, “I didn’t hear, I just heard about it this morning. I’ve got to find out from the family what’s going on. I don’t listen to anybody except the family.”

He continued, “So, anybody out there, don’t go reporting news, don’t go by news, don’t go by rumours, stay off social media, actually speak to the people that are actually going through what it is that they’re going through, because then you get the truth.”

In February, Jordan requested freedom on a $1 million bond. In a court filing from his lawyers, they said, “There are seismic changes in circumstances warranting Mr Jordan’s release.”

Jay died on October 30th, 2002, aged 37, having been shot and killed at his recording studio in Queens, New York.
