Joey Bada$$ calls out record label for delaying his new album
Joey Bada$$ has revealed that his new album, Lonely at the Top, will no longer be released on August 1st as planned. The Brooklyn rapper has spoken in depth about the delay, blasting his record label in a social media post.
Joey took to Instagram on July 29th to inform fans that the project wouldn’t be released this week, without being able to confirm another release date.
“I’mma just rip the band-aid off for y’all, man,” he began. “Listen, man. Bad news. Got some terrible news. The album is not dropping on Friday.”
He explained that the album is finished and has been turned in for over a month, claiming there are no feature or sample clearance issues.
“My shit got pushed back because the label pushed my shit back,” he said. “My album is signed, sealed, and delivered over a month ago. This ain’t cause of no sample clearances, this ain’t cause of no features, this ain’t cause of no clashing with another artist on the date. This is literally an Exhibit A of the label getting in the artists way.”
He added, “I’m signed to Columbia Records. But for the longest time, I just ain’t been fucking with them. Because all they do is get in my way. They really don’t fucking contribute to nothing.”
Joey tagged the label in the caption and wrote, “FREE JOEY,” urging his 2.8 million followers to support him.
His last album, 2000, was released in 2022. It was the sequel to his popular 1999 mixtape and featured Diddy, Chris Brown, Westside Gunn, JID, and Larry June.
He released his latest single ‘ABK’ on July 18th, which was set to be his last release before the entire album dropped.
