Jay-Z’s lawyers demand for his name to be removed from underage rape legal filing
Since Jay-Z’s name was included in a historic underage rape case alongside Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs on December 8th, his lawyer Alex Spiro has been attempting to get the rapper’s name removed from the lawsuit and has now even tried to have the entire case dismissed.
The lawsuit was filed by an unnamed female, identified only as Jane Doe. However, the accuser claims that Jay-Z assaulted her after she was driven to an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty hosted by Diddy in 2000. One of the more shocking details is that the accuser was only 13 years old at the time.
Following the recent NBC interview that the accuser gave on December 13th, Spiro has done his utmost to allege that there are multiple inconsistencies in the complainant’s recollection of the alleged incident and has now filed a motion asking the court to have Jay-Z’s name removed from the case due to its alleged multiple flaws.
Spiro filed the motion on December 18th, hours before Combs appeared before a Manhattan court for his pretrial hearing. The paperwork cited several reasons Jay-Z should be removed and asserted that the various allegations “have caused incalculable harm to Mr. Carter, his family, his businesses, his employees, and his legacy.”
Multiple developments in the historic underage rape case have put the plaintiff in potential jeopardy. In the NBC interview, the anonymous accuser alleged that at the VMAs afterparty where the alleged crime occurred, she spoke with Benji Madden. However, a representative of the Maddens said they were touring the Midwest during the VMAs.
Furthermore, the lawsuit claims her father picked her up from New York City after the incident and drove her back to Rochelle. However, since the interview aired, her father has spoken out and said he does not recall what would have been a drive home of more than five hours.
Addressing the newly filed court papers, Tony Buzbee told the Associated Press, “They continue to file meritless motions that are contrary to the rules and which have absolutely no merit.” Buzbee announced in October that he represents some 120 people, men and women, with allegations of sexual misconduct against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.
Further developments in the case include a December 18th lawsuit filed by Tony Buzbee against Roc Nation and Marcy Croft. However, that has been filed in Texas, although it is aimed at Jay-Z’s company and alleges obstruction of justice.
