Jay-Z and Roc Nation sued by Tony Buzbee for illegal solicitation
Roc Nation and, by extension, Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter have been sued by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee. The legal figure has become the leading attorney bringing civil lawsuits against Sean’ Diddy’ Combs. That said, he is also the attorney representing the anonymous accuser alleging Jay-Z sexually assaulted her at a VMAs afterparty in 2000.
On December 17th, Buzbee released a statement confirming his decision to take action against the Brooklyn rapper. The statement reads: “Today, The Buzbee Law Firm filed suit against Roc Nation and lawyers Marcy Croft and Quinn Emanuel for violation of various state laws, including barratry and impersonation of a public official.”
Buzbee continued, “The case was brought on behalf of a former client of the firm who was illegally solicited by agents working on behalf of the Defendants. These agents pretended to [work] for the State of Texas and offered the former client money to sue the Buzbee Law Firm.”
Earlier this month, lawyers for Jay-Z filed an affidavit alleging that Buzbee tried to coerce an individual to file a lawsuit against Combs and insisted they knew of “a female adult resident of the State of Texas” who could attest to Buzbee’s corruption.
Still, Buzbee has fired back and claimed it is in fact, Jay-Z who has allegedly been bribing people and, in this fresh lawsuit, claims that employees of Roc Nation imitated government officials “more than two dozen times,” resulting in “two utterly frivolous cases.”
Concerning the anonymous female Texan, the new lawsuit against Roc Nation alleges that “Team Roc” agents “were caught on tape soliciting and offering money (up to $10,000) to former clients of The Buzbee Law Firm to convince them to file a frivolous case against the Buzbee Law Firm.” Buzbee added, “LET ME BE CLEAR: we will not be bullied or intimidated. The Defendants this time overstepped, got sloppy, and stupidly got caught at their illegal scheme on tape.”
Earlier this week, the Jane Doe in Jay-Z’s New York civil lawsuit gave an interview to NBC and Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, was quick to respond to the interview, telling followers that the story is not only a “lie,” but it is “provably demonstrably false.”
Due to the NBC interview given by the Jane Doe, Tony Buzbee and his practices have come under more scrutiny from the public but by filing a new lawsuit against Roc Nation he is signalling that he is not going to be silenced by Carter.
