Tony Buzbee attacks Jay-Z with ‘Big Pimpin’ lyrics in new legal filing
Shawn ‘Jay-Z‘ Carter’s lyrics have been quoted by Tony Buzbee, the man who accused him of raping a 13-year-old girl, in a new legal filing. In an attempt to dismiss one of Hov’s cases against him, the lawyer included lyrics about prostitution, claiming they damage his reputation.
An anonymous woman sued the rapper with the help of Buzbee last year, claiming he sexually assaulted her alongside Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in 2000. However, she voluntarily dismissed the case in February. Since then, Jay has taken action, suing Buzbee for defamation and extortion.
In court documents filed on June 4th, Buzbee wrote, “Carter’s latest pleading bemoans what he describes as the ‘incredibly painful’ event of explaining [the rape] allegations to ‘his wife’ and ‘their children.’
“To put those allegations in their proper context, it is helpful to view them alongside the following lyrics from one of Carter’s most successful songs, which became famous nationwide around the time [the accuser] claims her sexual assault occurred.”
The filing includes four lines from the first ‘Big Pimpin‘ verse, where Jay-Z raps, “You know I thug ‘em, fuck ‘em, love ‘em, leave ‘em ‘cause I don’t fuckin’ need ‘em/ Take ‘em out the hood, keep ‘em lookin’ good but I don’t fuckin’ feed ‘em.”
Buzbee added, “Released more than 25 years ago, this song of Carter’s, like many of the others that made him famous, contains lyric after lyric describing Carter’s views on the loss of innocence and how men should treat women.”
Hov previously admitted that the song lyrics were “really harsh.” During a 2010 interview with The Wall Street Journal, he said, “Some [lyrics] become really profound when you see them in writing. Not ‘Big Pimpin’. That’s the exception,” he said. “It was like, ‘I can’t believe I said that. And kept saying it.’ What kind of animal would say this sort of thing?”
