Jay-Z is now the most Grammy-nominated artist of all time

Jay-Z is now the most nominated artist in Grammy history with a staggering 83 nods.

Out of the 83 nominations, ‘Hova’ can boast 23 wins. The previous record-holder was Quincy Jones, who boasts 80 nominations. Jay-Z’s guest appearances on albums by Kanye West and DMX saw him rise above the legendary producer in the list.

Previously, Paul McCartney and Beyoncé were tied in second place, but now the former Beatle sits behind Jay after receiving two nominations this year, which puts him ahead of Jones.

Meanwhile, Stevie Wonder and late classical conductor Georg Solti have 74, whereas film-music composers Henry Mancini and John Williams are tied with 72.

Jay-Z received his first Grammy nominations in 1999 off the back of his seminal masterpiece Vol. 2…Hard Knock Life and ‘Money Ain’t AThang’, his collaboration with Jermaine Dupri.

However, Jay boycotted the awards because they refused to recognise DMX. Since that moment, ‘Hova’ has been an almost annual fixture at the ceremony. In the 22 years since his first nomination, he has only missed out on nods on four occasions.

Meanwhile, Jay-Z’s induction speech for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is now available to watch, and it featured an array of famous faces, including President Obama, LeBron James, and Chris Rock.

The legendary rapper was finally initiated into Rock Hall this year, and Dave Chappelle had the honour of inducting him on the night. Now, HBO has shared the full Questlove produced induction video titled The Times and Life of Shawn Carter. In the video, a selection of celebrity fans shared what Jay-Z means to them.
