It has recently been announced that Black Album creator Jay-Z and D’Angelo will release a new song entitled ‘I Want You Forever’ on January 12th as a single for a movie soundtrack.
The track was made with the help of filmmaker and musician Jeymes Samuel and will feature on the soundtrack of The Book of Clarence. Samuel has described the collaboration as “nine minutes and 32 seconds of absolute soulful, biblical bliss.”
Samuel not only wrote but also directed the upcoming film, which will land in movie theatres on Friday, January 12th. Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) also helped produce the movie and the soundtrack. The two musicians have previously worked together on the 2021 Western, The Harder They Fall.
During a panel discussion moderated by hip-hop journalist Elliott Wilson, Jeymes Samuel previewed the new “nine-minute and 33 seconds” collaboration. However, Carter and D’Aneglo’s track is not the first single from the soundtrack to be released.
Earlier this year, the first single from the Book of Clarence soundtrack, ‘Hallelujah Heaven,’ featured an all-star lineup with notable names like Lil Wayne, Shabba Ranks and Buju Banton appearing on the song. The soundtrack is also rumoured to feature vocals from Kid Cudi and Jorja Smith.
In a press release for the first single with Lil Wayne, Samuels wrote, “The Book of Clarence is a film that I wanted to make for many years. While I was working on The Harder They Fall, and all my other projects, the story and the music for The Book of Clarence was always there percolating in my mind.”
He continued, “There was never a question as to whether I would compose the score and write and perform on the soundtrack, as well as write and direct the movie—it was all one amazing journey where one depended on the other. But I also worked with the most awesome artists on our track ‘Hallelujah Heaven.’ Collaborating with Lil Wayne, Buju Banton, and Shabba Ranks was so dope, I loved getting them all on the same track.”
