Jay-Z accuses Tony Buzbee of lying about death threats
Jay-Z has claimed that Tony Buzbee lied about him making a death threat.
The lawyer accused Hov of raping a woman with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in 2000, but the lawsuit ended up being voluntarily dismissed.
According to AllHipHop, a new filing shows that attorney David Fortney sat down with Jane Doe and told her that Jay had threatened to kill her and that continuing the lawsuit wasn’t an option.
Hov denies the claim, which allegedly came about due to Buzbee practising law in a federal court in which he was never authorised.
Judge Analisa Torres ordered him to prove his bar admission to the Southern District of New York, but his application was allegedly denied.
As a result, Buzbee dropped out of many cases against Combs, and allegedly lied about a death threat from Jay-Z to save himself. The rapper claims he lost $190 million in income and other damages.
During an interview in March, Jay admitted that he felt “uncontrollable anger” over the lawsuit, which left him “heartbroken.”
“It was hard,” he told GQ. “Really hard. I was heartbroken. I’m glad we got right to that so we could just get that out the way. Like, I was really heartbroken by everything that occurred. We’re in a space now where it’s almost like consequence is not thought about enough. Because everything is so instant, you know what I’m saying?”
He continued, “That whole [lawsuit thing], that shit took a lot out of me. I was angry. I haven’t been that angry in a long time, uncontrollable anger. You don’t put that on someone – that’s a thing that you better be super sure. It used to be like that. You had to be super sure before you put those kind of things on a person. Especially a person like me.”
