Prosecutors challenge acquittal of Jam Master Jay’s alleged murderer

One of the men accused of killing Jam Master Jay had his conviction overturned in December, but prosecutors are appealing the acquittal.

The Run-DMC member died at the age of 37 after he was shot and killed on October 30th, 2002.

His godson, Karl Jordan, and Ronald Washington were convicted in 2024, but Jordan was acquitted last month.

According to AllHipHop, federal prosecutors have challenged the verdict in the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Details are currently unknown and will appear in later filings.

Jay was murdered at his recording studio in Queens, New York City, suffering gunshot wounds to the head. He was shot at close range with a .40 caliber handgun

Following the acquittal of Jordan, fellow Run-DMC member DMC shared his reaction to the decision. “I didn’t hear, I just heard about it this morning,” he said. “I’ve got to find out from the family what’s going on. I don’t listen to anybody except the family.”

He added, “So, anybody out there, don’t go reporting news, don’t go by news, don’t go by rumours, stay off social media, actually speak to the people that are actually going through what it is that they’re going through, because then you get the truth.”

When asked if the news was surprising, he replied, “No, not really. But, see this belt buckle? I wear it every day, so every time that you see me, I am chilling with Jay.”

After US District Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall acquitted Jordan, his lawyer said, “We are really happy for Mr Jordan and his family that justice was served. Despite the verdict, he remains in prison on drug charges.”
