Jam Master Jay’s murderer stabbed in Brooklyn prison
One of the men convicted of killing Jam Master Jay was stabbed in a fight over the weekend. Jay, a member of the legendary hip-hop group Run-DMC, was murdered in 2002, with two people facing convictions for his death.
Karl Jordan Jr was stabbed in an attack at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn at around 1pm on February 22nd. Jordan is currently awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of murder charges in February 2024.
According to NBC New York, Jordan suffered serious injuries, but sources described his condition as “stable.” The Federal Bureau of Prisons said multiple people suffered minor injuries as a result of the fight, with two of them requiring outside medical treatment. The altercation didn’t involve any MDC employees.
Jordan, who was Jay’s godson, was found guilty of killing the DJ at a New York City recording studio over two decades ago. The other convicted man, Ronald Washington, a childhood friend of Jay, was found guilty on charges of murder while engaging in a narcotics trafficking conspiracy and firearm-related murder. Prosecutors called it “revenge” for a failed drug deal.
Following the convictions, Jay’s family issued a statement expressing their appreciation for justice being served. “We extend our deepest gratitude to the prosecutors, law enforcement officials and all involved in bringing these individuals to justice,” they said. “Their unwavering dedication has ensured a measure of accountability for the tragic loss of Jam Master Jay.”
The statement continued, “As we pause to reflect, we are reminded of the profound impact and influence Jay had on countless lives. His legacy endures through his music, his spirit and the cherished memories we hold dear. We remain committed to honouring his memory and celebrating the enduring legacy he leaves behind.”
A third man, Jay Bryant, was charged with his murder in May 2023. At the time, he was already in custody for drug-related charges. His trial, separate from Jordan and Washington, is set to begin in January 2026.
