J Cole confirms plans for new album ‘It’s a Boy’

J Cole has revealed he has plans to release another album despite his latest project arriving last week.

The Fayetteville rapper dropped the 24-song The Fall-Off on February 6th, but is wasting no time confirming his next album: It’s a Boy.

Cole initially teased It’s a Boy as a prelude to The Fall-Off in a sketch years ago, but his new album came without any explanation of the former project.

Now, during a recent AMA, Cole addressed It’s a Boy for the first time when asked if the project was dead and buried.

“No it’s not scrapped,” he said. “It will release. We almost put it out before the album. But with the Birthday Blizzard tape and 24-song album, we was like, it’s a lot of music to process.”

Elsewhere in the AMA, Cole spoke about his passion for working with other artists behind the scenes, which is something he wants to focus on in the future.

“I wanna make beats, produce for other artists, even if I’m not making the beat,” he said. “Just helping to craft the vision. That’s a big passion of mine that I haven’t been able to lock in on cuz for years my focus was on ME and my story. I think my gift is maybe even greater when I’m in a more selfless role.”

Despite going five years without a solo album, Cole has still kept himself busy with projects. In 2024, he released his Might Delete Later mixtape, which initially included his Kendrick Lamar diss, ‘7 Minute Drill’.

As well as that, he dropped D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape under Dreamville alongside JID, EARTHGANG, Ari Lennox, Bas, Cozz, Omen, and Lute.
