J Cole and more announced as features with Eminem’s new tracklist released
Fans of Eminem accidentally got a sneak peek at what they can expect from his upcoming new album, The Death of Slim Shady, over the weekend. Apple inadvertently leaked the tracklist, including features. It shows a star-studded list that includes appearances from J Cole, JID, Black Thought, and more.
The album is set for release on July 12th, and details surrounding what will be available on it have been kept under lock and key. However, by making the album available to pre-save, Apple Music also made it so that people who saved the album could see the tracklist. The Death of Slim Shady will feature 20 songs, and some big names will appear on them.
One song that has caught listeners’ eyes is a posse cut called ‘Cypher Intermission’. The song will feature appearances from J Cole, Black Thought, Royce Da 5’9”, Ez Mil, and Tech Nine. Royce will also appear on a later song called ‘Threequel’, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given the rappers’ history of working together.
Eminem appears to be branching out into various styles and sounds with this album, too, as Billie Eilish is set to appear on a song, while later in the album, his old school compadres, Dr Dre and 50 Cent, will lend their lyrical ability.
There is no guarantee that this tracklisting is accurate, as fake information about Eminem albums has made its way online before, so there is nothing to suggest that this could be anything different. However, the tracklist did not appear to be unrealistic, as many of the people featured on it have worked with Eminem in the past, and all artists are continually making music (or at the very least still involved in the hip-hop scene).
Apple Music now only shows songs from the upcoming album by number, apart from the two singles that have already been released, ‘Houdini’ and ‘Tobey’. The latter is the Detroit rapper’s most recent single, featuring Big Sean and receiving positive reviews from listeners.
Despite being ambitious in its music video and overall sound, the first single from the new album, ‘Houdini’ received a mixed review. While a lot of fans enjoyed the way the song threwback to Eminem’s “Slim Shady” period, others were upset at some of the lyrics, such as a throwaway line directed at Megan Thee Stallion, and they also said his resurgence of the character shows his lack of ideas or dominance in the modern rap game.
Eminem’s new album, The Death of Slim Shady, will be released on July 12th.
