Murder Inc founder Irv Gotti suffers new stroke

Irv Gotti has suffered another stroke. The founder of Murder Inc Records, behind Ja Rule and Ashanti, has had a long-standing battle with diabetes and experienced another health scare. His current condition is unknown.

54-year-old Gotti (real name Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr.) previously had a stroke in 2024 and was spotted walking around with a cane, while appearing to have lost a lot of weight. In August, a spokesperson for Gotti addressed the stroke and revealed that he had made changes to his diet.

“Irv has been struggling with diabetes for years, which caused him to have a minor stroke over six months ago,” they said. “He has since changed his diet to eating more healthy. He’s been successful in making a full recovery. Irv is not in a rehab facility. He is at home with his family, enjoying life.”

AllHipHop reported the news of Gotti suffering a second stroke, while The Sun claimed that his representatives offered no comment on the incident. 50 Cent came across a headline that alleged Gotti was on life support and saying goodbyes to friends and family. In an Instagram post, 50 posted a screenshot of the story while taunting in the caption, “Damn I wanted him to see my new shows yo!”

During his appearance on Drink Champs in 2023, Gotti opened up about his health. “It’s [diabetes] rampant with black people,” he said. “What it does is, it starts deteriorating your body. I’ve been diagnosed with diabetes forever; it’s hereditary. When my [blood sugar] gets too high, shot [of insulin]. It’s reversible but you gotta change the way you eat — all that.”

He added, “But you know what’s fucked up with diabetes? So anything that you’re gonna like or tastes good, horrible for you. Now what’s some nasty shit? Broccoli… you supposed to eat some leaves or shit like that.”

Gotti was born in Queens, New York City, in 1970. He founded Murder Inc. in 1998 under Def Jam Recordings and has worked with DMX, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Fat Joe, Jennifer Lopez, Memphis Bleek, Eve, and many other major artists.

“We were a huge label, not just in the United States of America,” Gotti told VladTV in 2019. “What people need to realise is when we did that record, ‘I’m Real’, with J.Lo, that record was not just number one here, it was number one in every country in the planet Earth.”
