iLoveMakonnen reveals he’s now working in a restaurant kitchen

iLoveMakonnen has revealed he’s now working in a restaurant kitchen. The rapper gained popularity in 2014 with his hit Drake collaboration, but has since transitioned into culinary work.

The Atlanta-raised artist signed to Drizzy’s OVO Sound label in 2014 and reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Tuesday’, which was nominated for ‘Best Rap/Sung Collaboration’ at the 2015 Grammy Awards.

Taking to social media this week, iLoveMakonnen informed fans that he’s looked away from the music industry to make a living.

“At work type shit,” he said. “We’re working and getting this money. You know what I’m saying? If you need me to come guest chef at your motherfucking spot, holla at me. Let me know what city. I’m coming through, cooking up. We got the smash burgers going off tonight. I’m tired already, though, but you know, I love cooking for the people.”

In the clip, he’s pitching for new work and seen wearing an apron in a kitchen while people are dining at the front of the restaurant

iLoveMakonnen announced he was retiring from music in September 2024 “I am retiring iLoveMakonnen,” he said. “Thank you all for ur support and interests over the years. It’s time I move on and go live my life. Heavy in the streets is my last song. Thank you for being apart of my musical journey! See u in the streets filled with art.”

Despite his plans, he has continued to release music. His latest single, ‘Really Super Pretty’, was released earlier this month, with other songs, ‘More Worth Than Drugs’, ‘Is It Love?’, and ‘Like WTF’, also dropping throughout the year.

As well as ‘Tuesday’, which has over 262 million Spotify streams, he’s also known for his Lil Peep and Fall Out Boy collaboration ‘I’ve Been Waiting’.
