Ice Cube reveals the worst movie he ever made: “That’s garbage”

Ice Cube is a hip-hop legend in his own right, but he’s also had a thriving acting career for over three decades. Some of his most notable movies include Boyz n the Hood, Friday and 21 Jump Street, but in his opinion, not all of his acting roles have resulted in the same high-quality end product.

Jackson has played several roles during his career and has always looked back fondly on his various filming experiences. From Friday alongside his good friend Chris Tucker to Are We There Yet? with Nia Long, the rapper and actor has filled almost every type of role you can.

However, that’s not all he has done. Jackson also appeared in 22 Jump Street, but only last year the rapper revealed to the Million Dollarz Worth of Game podcast alongside E-40 and Too $hort, that he rejected a $9million role because the producers were pressuring him get a Covid vaccine. Going into detail, the ‘No Vaseline’ rapper explained that he was unsure about his status within Hollywood as a result.

Speaking on the Bootleg Kev Podcast, the Los Angeles rapper listed off some of the worst movies he’s been involved in over the years, including 2001’s Ghost of Mars and 2005’s XXX: State of the Union. However, Ice Cube had particularly harsh words for Rampart, the 2011 crime drama film that starred Woody Harrelson in the lead role.

“I would say Ghost of Mars, and I did some shit called Rampart with Woody Harrelson – that’s garbage,” he said about his least favourite movies. “Fucking XXX is better than that shit. To me, XXX had the wrong director, it had an old school director when they should’ve got somebody new and fly. Xzibit, [Samuel L.] Jackson and Willem Dafoe, it was just the wrong director. You know, he didn’t add no spice to it, it just felt old.”

On the flip side, Cube called 2002’s All About the Benjamins, which saw him starring alongside Mike Epps, one of his most underrated films. “I love working with Mike,” he said. “He’s my favourite person to work with.”

Ice Cube previously admitted that he listens to his own music more than he watches his own movies. Instead of sitting back and enjoying his work, he gets too caught up in how he couldn’t have performed better. “I do listen to my own music more than I watch my own films,” he told The Guardian. “When I watch a film, I’m picking out what I should have done, so I’m critiquing the movie more than I’m enjoying it. Who needs that?”

Fans of Friday have had plenty to be excited about recently. In October, the N.W.A member revealed that his 1995 buddy comedy film with Chris Tucker would be getting a sequel.

“It’s coming back! We gonna do it!” he said on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast. “We gonna make it dope, make it funny, bring it up to date, introduce new characters, bring back old characters, create the feeling the movie gives you.”
