GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B sued for allegedly stealing beat

Florida rapper Plies has sued Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla for allegedly stealing a beat for their 2024 hit song, ‘Wanna Be’. The Florida native is claiming that the track is copyright infringement of his 2008 song, ‘Me & My Goons’. He is also claiming Soulja Boy did the same for his 2010 hit, ‘Pretty Boy Swag’.

The specific issue that Plies has emphasised is the use of what he calls an “infrared countdown beat.” Megan Thee Satllion’s personal label, Hot Girl Productions, is also listed as a defendant in the case, as well as Collipark Productions, Universal Music Group, Yo Gotti‘s Collective Music Group and Interscope Records.

None of the people referenced by Plies have responded to his lawsuit. However, producer LilJujuMadeDaBeat, who has worked extensively with Megan Thee Stallion, although he didn’t make ‘Wanna Be’ took it upon himself to explain how baseless the claim is and highlighted where this hip-hop production style started and who has, in fact, been credited on ‘Wanna Be’ for the beat.

LilJujuMadeDaBeat told Plies that the 2007 hit ‘My Dougie’ by Dallas emcee Lil Wil was the first song with this style of beat and that the producer of the song, Big E, is credited on ‘Wanna Be’

Taking to social media, Lil Juju told Plies, “‘My Dougie’ came it in 2006, ‘Me & My Goons’ came it in 2008. Big E, the producer of ‘My Dougie’ is credited on ‘Wanna Be.” He added, “For the Record ‘Pretty Boy Swag’ is a remake of ‘My Dougie’ as well. Soulja Boy is on the ‘My Dougie’ Remix. ‘Me & My Goons’ literally not even the single for that Plies album.” As of yet, Plies hasn’t responded to LilJujuMadeDaBeat.

This is not the first time that Plies has gotten into a dispute pertaining to sampling. Earlier this year, Kodak Black asked the DaREAList creator to clear a sample for a new song he was hoping to release, but the lyricist wouldn’t respond to him.

During an Instagram Live, Kodak reached out to him, stating, “I need somebody from Plies camp or Plies himself or whatever to tighten down. ‘Cause I got a song that I’m tryna drop, and I need the clearance from Plies. I had redid one of his songs, and I need the shit cleared. I grew up off that boy. I fuck with Plies, tough. If you hear this or see this, let that boy know.”
