Funk Flex takes aim at Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s beef
HOT 97.0 DJ Funkmaster Flex hasn’t been as excited as the rest of hip-hop concerning the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef, and recently, the pioneer took to social media to share some of his thoughts surrounding the feud.
On June 20th, Funk Flex questioned why Lamar was performing his diss tracks at the Pop Out Festival in LA. The DJ insinuated that K.Dot was just trying to create a buzz, implying that perhaps the feud was not real.
Since his lyrical battle with Drake, Lamar performed both ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Not Like Us’, questioning the Compton native, Funk Flex to Twitter/X, writing, “I HAVE DRAKE / KENDRICK QUESTION? WAS IT A LYRICAL COMPETITION? OR A MARKETING / CAREER RELAUNCH? I NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT ARE THE RULES IN A LYRICAL BATTLE?”
Funk Flex is not the first person to question the authenticity of the feud. On his show, Joe Budden suggested that Kendrick Lamar’s track ‘Not Like Us’ wasn’t very popular and asserted that the LA lyricist had used bots to inflate his streams.
However, other legends in the game, such as LL Cool J, have praised Drake and Kendrick Lamar, insisting that their battle has been good for culture and even music at large.
In an interview with Bootleg Kev, LL Cool J admitted that as a fan, he was highly entertained by the battle and didn’t agree with those who said it was detrimental to the culture. In fact, concerning the Drake and K.Dot feud, LL stated, “I thought it was great for hip-hop,” he noted. “Thought it was the right thing.”
LL Cool J revealed his thoughts about the feud, saying, “I thought they both did well. They held their own.” He continued, “I thought Kendrick won. But I thought that Drake, by no means did he embarrass himself… He definitely showed up.”
However, you can see Funk flex’s more cynical take on the feud below.
