Frank Ocean’s mother admits his studio sessions are “boring”
Frank Ocean‘s mother has admitted that she finds it “boring” to be in the recording studio with her son.
Frank is one of the most elusive artists in the music industry, with many people eager to be a fly on the wall when he’s working on new music.
However, his mother, Katonya Breaux, has said the total opposite. During her appearance on Connection is Magic with Samson Shulman, she spoke about her experience in the studio with Frank.
“I go to the studio a lot when he’s working on something, and it’s so boring,” she began. “And I’ll tell you why, because you think you’re going to the studio and you’re going to hear a whole album or the songs, and he’ll play one thing over and over. I’m thinking, ‘What’s wrong with it? It sounds perfect.'”
She continued, “Like, one line over and over [for] hours. I’m hearing the same thing, but he hears something different, and until he hears that line… And so, it’s work. To have that kind of discipline is work.”
Katonya further explained that working on new music can be a long process for Frank due to obsessing over small details.
“So, it’s not all fun and games, you don’t just spit out a song and then that’s it, and go and record it,” she said. “At least not for him, I don’t know about other people.”
It’s coming up to a decade since Frank released his last album. Blonde was released in August 2016, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart with 276,000 units.
Since then, he’s released singles such as ‘Chanel’, ‘Biking’, ‘Lens’, ‘Provider’, ‘DHL’, and ‘In My Room’.
