Former gangster launches lawsuit against mother of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ mother, Janice Combs is now at the centre of a lawsuit as the drama surrounding the Bad Boy founder develops a new chapter. It has been alleged that the mogul often utilised her name to hide criminal money, shady business deals and more, according to a friend and former colleague of the disgraced musician.

Deon ‘D1’ Best recently made an appearance on the The Trial Of Diddy podcast during which he claimed that Janice Combs was often the front of company’s and accounts that hid artist’s publishing rights and money from certain parts of their record deals. Many of this allegedly happened in the late 1990s.

Best, who ran the production company Finish Line Entertainment, claimed that he regularly producers and musicians from his business were regularly contracted by Combs to work on Bad Boy material such as Biggie Smalls’ 1999 posthumous project Born Again. The project became a platinum-selling hit.

However, Best alleges that the incarcerated mogul not only took publishing rights from him and the artists who worked on the songs, but withheld all of their future earnings from that material.

Speaking about the mogul’s mother, Best claimed, “All of my publishing rights went to Janice Combs. ‘I’m here to talk about a different section of his allegations… and what I feel to believe involves his mother, Janice Combs. The [Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act] is about holding people accountable for systematic actions.”

He added: “You know, these actions have caused financial hardship, emotional hardship, but not only myself, but other artists in the business through what I feel was fraudulent and coercive activity. And I think that Janice Combs falls under those guidelines.”

Best told the hosts, as a result, he plans to sue Janice Combs and her companies because the Bad Boy deals were signed to her name. Best named a multitude of other projects which he worked on as part of Finish Line Entertainment which eh never saw money for including rapper Black Rob’s 2000 album Life Story and Combs Forever, which also hit platinum status after it was released in 1999.

Other artists who worked with Combs, including Mark Curry, have alleged Diddy was able to circumvent certain deals because he allegedly used Janice Combs to seal the deals. In 2020, Ma$e responded to a comment his former boss made about needing “receipts”, ranting, “How dare this n*gga talking about he want receipts! Let’s start with your mother, n*gga. Your mother got the receipts, n*gga. Everything is in your mother’s name. That’s the one who’s got the receipts, n*gga!”

Janice Combs is yet to respond to the lawsuit.
