First trailer for 'Yo! MTV Raps' reboot drops

The first trailer has dropped for the reboot of Yo! MTV Raps, the programme originally ran from 1988 and 1995.

It was essential viewing back in the day for any hip-hop head, and now it’s finally returning to our screens. The comeback was announced earlier this year with DJ Diamond Kuts and Conceited picking up from where Ed Lover and Dr Dre left off.

The series begins on Paramount+ on May 24th with a Freddie Gibbs special, followed by Latto on May 31st, Saba on June 7th, J.I.D on June 14th, Shenseea on June 21st, Tee Grizzley on June 28th, IDK on July 5th and Trina closing the season on July 12th.

In February, the broadcaster’s owner Viacom said: “MTV is bringing back its most storied hip-hop series and music franchise Yo! MTV Raps for Paramount+. The return of Yo! MTV Raps will include hosted segments, live performances, cyphers, lifestyle content and serve as a comprehensive deep dive into the current state of hip-hop.

“After its debut 33 years ago on August 6, 1988, Yo! MTV Raps became the premiere destination for all things Hip Hop. The advent of the series was crucial to the rise of rap music worldwide, creating a global passion for the genre and greater Hip Hop culture, which has since become the most dominant force in mainstream music and pop culture worldwide.”
