Fetty Wap secures early release from Minnesota prison
Fetty Wap is scheduled to be released from prison earlier than expected, taking an extra month off the New Jersey rapper‘s sentence.
The ‘Trap Queen’ artist was initially set for release on March 13th, 2027. It was then pushed up to January 8th, 2027, but he will now be released on December 8th, 2026.
Us Weekly reported the update on November 14th, but the Federal Bureau of Prisons did not provide a reason for his release being brought forward.
Fetty was arrested on federal drug trafficking charges in October 2021, with prosecutors accusing him and five others of transporting and distributing more than 100 kilograms of heroin, fentanyl, and other drugs across Long Island.
He pleaded not guilty and was released on a $500,000 bond. However, his release was revoked in August 2022 after he was accused of brandishing a firearm and threatening to kill an unnamed man during a FaceTime call.
Then, in May 2023, Fetty pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess cocaine and was sentenced to six years in prison and five years of supervised release. Judge Joanna Seybert told him, “Despite your background and all you overcame, you threw it all away.”
The 34-year-old rapper is currently located at the Federal Correctional Institution in Sandstone, Minnesota.
Fetty had multiple hits in the mid-2010s, including ‘Trap Queen’, which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. It was also nominated for ‘Best Rap Song’ and ‘Best Rap Performance’ at the Grammy Awards.
Other songs, ‘679’ and ‘My Way’, climbed to number four and seven on the chart, respectively, while ‘Again’ reached number 33.
Fetty’s self-titled album, released in September 2015, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart with 129,000 units in its first week. His last album, King Zoo, was released in November 2023.
