Watch Eminem and Snoop Dogg MTV VMAs metaverse performance

Snoop Dogg and Eminem partnered up last night at the MTV VMAs for a metaverse-inspired performance. The rapping pair joined several other performers at the annual event. It was co-hosted this year by Nicki Minaj, Jack Harlow and LL Cool J, and took place in New Jersey at the Prudential Center in Newark.

Eminem and Snoop Dogg performed a version of their collab track ‘From The D 2 The LBC’, although it was a combination of in-person and digital technology. Their show was put forward in partnership with Yuga Labs, the NFT and cryptocurrency company.

Yuga Labs are also the owners of the Bored Apes project, with which both Snoop and Eminem are affiliated. Their performance – inspired by the Otherside metaverse – opened up with them sat on a couch, with Snoop smoking a ridiculously large joint.

Eminem said he thought he was getting high from just being in the vicinity of Snoop. Then a green smoke swirl appeared on the screen above them, where the audience was transported into Eminem’s head.

Both he and Snoop had become digitised versions of themselves, in the style of Bored Apes figures. Towards the end of the track’s performance, it returned to the real-life stage, now surrounded by digital graphics.

Leading the nominations for the night were Lil Nas X and Kendrick Lamar (seven each), Harry Styles and Doja Cat (six) and Taylor Swift (five). Following Snoop and Eminem’s performances, more at the MTV VMAs are set to follow, including Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Harlow had set the night off with Fergie in a collaboration of ‘First Class’, then Lizzo took to the stage in a rendition of ‘2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)’, her new single. Nicki Minaj also ran through a set of big hitters from across her career.
