Eminem pays homage to Big Daddy Kane in ‘Murdergram Deux’ music video
Eminem is never one to hold back when showing respect to some of the biggest and most influential rappers in the game. Famed for his hard exterior and brutality, Eminem is also incredibly respectful and a fan of many different artists, which can clearly be seen in the new music video for ‘Murdergram Deux’.
In the visuals for the new track that sees the Detroit rapper link up with LL Cool J, Eminem includes a nod towards Big Daddy Kane, an artist who paved the way for many more. While it appears subtle, the imagery becomes clear once it’s been pointed out.
Fans were quick to notice the first time they watched the music video that Eminem clearly pays tribute Big Daddy Kane and his iconic 1988 album Long Live The Kane. During his verse on ‘Murdergram Deux’, Eminem echoes the album cover as he presents himself draped in finery, clearly showing a parallel between his scene and the classic cover. Eminem is sitting on a throne surrounded by women, eating grapes and drinking wine.
It’s not surprising that Eminem is a fan of Long Live The Kane, one of the most important albums in hip-hop history. Kane was an immediate influence on fans of the genre worldwide, and his slick rhymes and impeccable flow continue to impact generations of rappers.
Marshall has never been shy in holding back his love and respect for Big Daddy Kane. He has long hailed him as one of his personal idols in hip-hop.
The new track by LL Cool J and Eminem is a breath of fresh air. ‘Murdergram Deux’ combines old-school raps with a sound that is also quite new in tone. Em and LL Cool J both have a modern flow that sounds very of its time but also has influences of pioneers who helped to shape the culture. It’s currently appealing to fans of hip-hop, old and new, therefore, paying tribute to one of the rap game’s greats makes perfect sense.
It’s been a busy year for Eminem. The rapper, who isn’t shy of being under the radar, has been in the limelight throughout 2024 with his newest album, The Death of Slim Shady, and now his feature with LL Cool J.
