‘The Death of Slim Shady’ could be Eminem’s 11th chart-topping album
Eminem is set to secure his eleventh number-one album in the UK after selling over 16,294 units in its first week. The emcee’s latest project, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), was released on July 12th to mixed reviews and took Em up to 12 studio albums.
The Detroit lyricist has already outsold his closest rap rival, achieving over three times their overall sales. As well as topping the album charts, the project’s lead single ‘Houdini’ looks like it will reclaim its rightful place atop the singles chart for a third week.
Eminem’s 25-year career has seen him release a lot of material amounting to 12 full-length studio albums. Ten of his twelve projects have reached the top of the UK charts, including The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show, Encore, Curtain Call: The Hits, Relapse, Recovery, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, Revival, Kamikaze, and his 2020 LP Music to Be Murdered By.
If Eminem manages to clinch the top spot, he will knock pop superstar Taylor Swift off the chart, ending her 12-week run at the top. The billionaire vocalist’s project, The Tortured Poets Department, has been at the top of the UK album chart since it was released on April 19th.
Swift’s stubborn album denied a number one to Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish and more. This week, it managed to remain on top, stopping Zach Bryan’s The Great American Bar Scene from achieving the highly prized accolade.
Em’s body of work, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), boasted 19 tracks and was a concept album that saw Eminem struggle inside his mind and battle with his long-running alter-ego Slim Shady. He also talks about the new generation of rappers, cancel culture, and his past as an artist.
The project features guest appearances from Detroit natives such as Big Sean and BabyTron (on the album’s second single, ‘Tobey’) as well as mind-blowing verses from JID and silky, soft vocals from Skylar Grey.
