Drill rapper CB receives life sentence for killing gang rival
CB has been sentenced to life in prison for murder. The 27-year-old drill rapper (real name Lekan Akinsoji) was handed his sentence at the Old Bailey on October 24th.
Earlier this month, Akinsoji was found guilty of killing 21-year-old Ahmed Deen-Jah in an incident that took place on April 2nd, 2017.
According to The Standard, his accomplice, Sundjata Keita, 27, was also sentenced to life. Judge Anthony Leonard KC handed Akinsoji a minimum of 28 years, while giving 22 years to Keita.
Deen-Jah was fatally stabbed after being chased into a shop, BJ Wines, near Custom House station in east London.
The defendants wore black balaclavas and gloves, with Akinsoji stabbing Deen-Jah in the heart before fleeing the scene with Keita in a stolen Mercedes.
“This killing was not a spontaneous act of violence, but an attack planned against a background of street violence between two east London gangs,” the judge told the jury. “Those in the black Mercedes had been on a ‘ride-out’ – driving to an opposing gang’s area looking for rival gang members, or perceived members, to attack.”
Deen-Jah’s brother, Junior, was also killed in 2021. Anthony Leonard said, “Losing both sons has caused the most unbearable hurt and pain to him and his family. Mr Jah fully realises that no punishment which the court can administer will ever make up for the irreparable damage to his family.”
His mother, Hawa Conteh, added, “In seeking justice, we pray the court recognises the depth of our loss and the enduring and devastating impact this tragedy has had on our family. We hope no other family has to experience the heartache and suffering that we have endured.”
CB has over 263,000 monthly Spotify listeners. His biggest song, ‘Take That Risk‘, has 21 million streams, with ‘The Things’ also racking up 10 million plays.
