UK drill rapper CB facing life in jail for murdering gang rival
UK drill rapper CB has been found guilty of murder. The 27-year-old (real name Lekan Akinsoji) appeared in a trial at the Old Bailey this week and faces life in prison.
On October 9th, CB (also known as Cracky Black) was found guilty of killing a gang rival, 21-year-old Ahmed Deen-Jah (nicknamed Skinna), alongside his accomplice, Sundjata Keita.
According to Yahoo, the incident took place in the afternoon of April 2nd, 2017. Shortly before he was killed, Deen-Jah bought a lighter from a shop near Custom House station in London.
Prosecutors claim he was then chased by two men wearing black balaclavas and gloves into the off-licence he had come from.
Deen-Jah tried to fend them off but was stabbed in the heart, with the two attackers running off. CB was allegedly the man who stabbed him. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:49pm, just 130 metres from his home.
10 days before the murder took place, CB released a song called ‘Armed and Ready‘, where he rapped, “No face, no case, no evvy.”
In court, prosecutor Anthony Orchard KC said, “This killing was not a spontaneous act of violence, but an attack planned against a background of street violence between two East London gangs. Those in the black Mercedes had been on a ‘ride-out’ – driving to an opposing gangs’ area looking for rival gang members, or perceived members, to attack.”
CB is currently serving a 23-year sentence on firearm charges. He was sentenced in 2019 after pointing a shotgun at police while wearing a clown mask in a chase across London.
During a prison interview with Complex in 2022, CB admitted, “I regret bare things that’s happened in my life, but at the same time, I knew what the risks would be.”
CB has over 242,000 monthly Spotify listeners; his biggest song, ‘Take That Risk’, has over 21 million streams. Elsewhere, his music video for ‘The Things’ has 7.8 million views on YouTube. He also has over 81,000 Instagram followers.
