Drake claims he regrets naming his exes in songs

Canadian rapper Drake has revealed that he regrets naming his ex-partners in his songs in a new podcast with Lil Yachty. Drake made the admission in the first episode of FUTUREMOOD’s new podcast, A Moody Conversation.

He said, “Sometimes when I’ve said girls’ names in songs, maybe those are the two things that I look back on, and I’m like, ‘Maybe I could’ve done without like… shitting on people for age or disrupting somebody’s life.”

Drake added, “The lyrics are never with ill intent, but I had somebody tell me one time, ‘You know, it’s not necessarily what you’re saying about me; it’s the fact that you said it’.” The rapper then noted that he once had a conversation with an ex-girlfriend, who told him about how his using their name in a song affected them

According to Drake, one of his ex-partner’s personal life was greatly affected, in the sense that they were “left to pick up the pieces” of the life they had been trying to make for themselves since the pair broke up, while Drake could merely sing and rap about it. Drake said he had “tried my best to stop doing that, but I like to be honest in music too. So that one’s a push and pull.”

Also, in the conversation, Drake opened up on when he might decide to leave the music industry, telling Lil Yachty about the fact he had been thinking about “introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit”. He noted that he was not fully ready to walk away just yet, though, and has several plans to do new projects and continue collaborating with other artists.

However, it looks like Drake wants to at least take a break from his high-intensity work-life balance, saying, “I’m not going to force myself to compete”. Check out the full podcast episode below.
