Drake’s father claims he doesn’t have cancer despite ‘Iceman’ lyric
Drake revealed that his father has cancer on his new album, but the 71-year-old has denied the claim.
The Toronto rapper released three albums on May 15th, including Iceman. On the opening track, he stated that his dad, Dennis Graham, has cancer.
On ‘Make Them Cry’, he raps, “My dad got cancer right now, we battlin’ stages/ Trust me when I say there’s plenty things that I’d rather be facin’/ For real/ And this time, ask me to dig deeper, I’ll gladly explain it.”
However, during an interview with TMZ shortly after its release, Graham claimed that he no longer has cancer.
Graham was stopped outside the West Hollywood cocktail bar, Bar Jubilee, and asked about the serious illness that has son revealed.
“That was a long time ago,” he said. “No, that was a while back. I’m OK now. I’m wonderful. My phone’s been going off all night. Thank you guys for the concern. I love you all, and from the bottom of my heart, I appreciate you.”
He continued, “It was lung cancer at first, but fortunately, I got a message that it disappeared. So, here I am. It’s not about [caring for myself] more. I have a puff every now and then, but I’m not smoking like I used to. But yeah, I wanna thank everybody for their concern about me. I love you all.”
Based on Graham’s comments, it appears Drake is either out of the loop or ‘Make Them Cry’ was recorded a while ago.
Iceman was released alongside two other surprise albums, Habibti and Maid of Honour, on the same day. The projects consist of 43 new songs in total, with features from Future, 21 Savage, Sexyy Red, and more.
