Drake blasts Sabrina Carpenter songs in empty nightclub
Drake has found himself in a bit of a hole since the release of ‘Not Like Us’ last year. Not only has his lawsuit against Universal Music Group lost its teeth due to some changes, but his joint album with PARTYNEXTDOOR, $ome $exy Songs 4 U, has failed to hit the same dizzy heights as he once hit.
From 2024’s ‘Wah Gwan Delilah’ with Snowd4y to his more recent track ‘Meet Your Padre’, it has been a difficult time creatively for the rapper. That said, he recently decided to pull another stunt to gain attention, this time posting on social media. In a recent Instagram story, the Toronto native posted a video of himself sitting on a couch in an empty club, blasting Sabrina Carpenter’s song ‘Espresso’.
The Scorpion creator recently cancelled shows on his Australian Anita Max Win tour, only to sit in an empty club in a fur coat on a laptop.
Drizzy has money, and over the years, he has done many things to prove this. Whether it’s buying lavish gifts or throwing exclusive parties, the emcee has made it more than clear that he is wealthy. But with this latest effort, what he is trying to say is unclear.
In the footage, he’s gambling on the nightclub’s screen and can be heard getting annoyed when a particular bet doesn’t go his way. However, the reason for blaring Sabrina Carpenter’s music is entirely unknown, as Drake and Carpenter have never crossed paths directly. Furthermore, they don’t even operate within the same genre.
However, many have theorised that it has to do with Drake’s UMG gripe. After winning two Grammys, Carpenter released the deluxe version of her album, Short n’ Sweet, on February 14th, the exact date that Drizzy’s $ome $exy Songs 4 U hit DSPs. As such, many are wondering if the label may have tried to overshadow Drake’s album release.
Irrespective of what the lyricist is trying to achieve, many are adding it to a list of weird things that have happened since the release of ‘Not Like Us’, including stage rants, parody tracks and bizarre social media posts.
