Dr Dre’s former councillor granted restraining order against rapper

Dr Dre‘s former marriage councillor, Dr. Charles Sophy, has been granted a restraining order against the rapper following verbal abuse accusations made by the medical professional.

While Dre has been divorced from his ex-wife, Nicole Young, since 2021, Sophy was tasked with aiding their marriage before they eventually reached a settlement and parted ways. However, Sophy has alleged that Dre continued to abuse him via text for a long period of time, which led to the restraining order.

In his initial lawsuit, Sophy claimed that Dre began to contact him in February, 2023, more than a year after his divorce with Nicole was made official. Sophy alleges that he was bombarded with “abusive and threatening text messages”.

Sophy claims that Dre sent texts vowing he would “make [Sophy] pay for that”, and also called him a “piece of shit” along with a “bitch”.

A report by TMZ, published on October 11th, claims that Dre is not allowed to go within 100 yards of Sophy or his son due to the restraining order being sanctioned. Furthermore, Dre is also not permitted to contact him through text, email or on the phone.

Sophy alleges in the lawsuit that Dre began to abuse him after his divorce to Nicole was finalised and used abusive language against him. The therapist is seeking $10million in damages from the NWA founding member.

In response, Dre’s attorney, Howard King, has hit back at the claims, alleging that Sophy showed malicious intent in his handling of the divorce. Additionally, Dre alleged that Sophy committed malpractice for becoming the rapper’s therapist after his marriage councillor.

Dre also claimed that Sophy attempted to manipulate his son into spreading “false allegations” about the domestic abuse that Nicole brought forward against the rapper to benefit her in the divorce proceedings.

In response to Dre’s rebuttal, Sophy’s attorney, Christopher Frost, told TMZ: “All mental health professionals work with individuals and families at their most vulnerable and emotionally challenging times of their lives.”

Frost continued: “However, threatening and harassing someone as a means to express one’s emotions is an unacceptable behavior that the world at large cannot tolerate.”

The legal representative: “Unfortunately, Mr. Young’s recent conduct since the filing of the complaint only perpetuates his chosen consistent pattern of behavior. This dispute is about his consistent pattern of negative and abusive behavior and nothing else.”

Dre is reportedly eager for the case to go to trial, and he also wants Sophy’s professional licence to be revoked due to alleged malpractice. At this stage, no trial date has been set but the story will likely develop over the next few months.
