Documentary announced on Chris Brown abuse allegations
A new documentary has been announced which focuses on allegations of domestic violence made against R&B star Chris Brown.
In the teaser trailer, a woman, who accuses Brown of misconduct, can be heard saying, “Chris Brown’s an amazing and talented musician, but let’s call a thing a thing. He’s an abuser of women. Consistently, unapologetically.”
Meanwhile, the new documentary, Chris Brown: A History of Violence, also features a new testimony from another women who is coming forward for the first time. Her identity has been hidden in the programme.
The synopsis for Chris Brown: A History of Violence reads: “Chris Brown’s past all the way back to his troubled childhood, explores the lasting impact of the cycle of abuse, and poses the question: how does a man with such a violent public record maintain his superstar status? With expert and cultural commentary layered throughout, the documentary provides thoughtful reflections into each survivor’s experience and the psychological destruction in the aftermath of their abuse.”
The documentary is scheduled to air on the Investigation Discovery network on October 27th in the United States. The premiere is the launch of the channel’s third annual No Excuse For Abuse campaign.
Furthermore, The View’s Sunny Hostin will also host a discussion following the documentary. She said of her upcoming involvement: “Domestic violence is a very close, personal issue to me as I reflect on my past as a prosecutor of these types of cases, and in my role as a mother and public figure whose actions inform and help shape the next generation.”
Hostin continued: “This issue is a prevalent epidemic which knows no socio-economic boundaries, so I am dedicated to expanding and continuing this crucial conversation. The more we know, the better we can help advocate for change as a society.”
Brown has been at the centre of many abuse allegations over the years. Notably, in 2009, the singer pled guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, and was subjected to attend domestic violence training alongside six-months of community service.
Furthermore, in 2017, Brown’s ex-girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, was successfully granted a five-year restraining order against him by a Santa Monica judge.
In the 2017 documentary, Chris Brown: Welcome To My Life, the star opened up about his abuse of Rihanna and admitted that he “felt like a fucking monster”.
He claimed the attack occurred after Rihanna became suspicious of texts he’d received from another woman, stating, “She’s fighting me, and I’m like: I’m telling you the truth, I swear to God, stop it. She hits me a couple more times, and it doesn’t go from translation: sit down, I’m trying to tell you the truth. It goes to: now I’m finna be me, and be evil… She tried to kick me… and I really hit her, with a closed fist, I punched her. When I saw it, I was in shock, I was like, fuck, why did I hit her. She spit blood in my face – and it raised me even more … She grabbed my nuts, and I bit her arm.”
Brown is yet to respond to the news of the documentary series.
