DMX's cause of death has been confirmed

It has been confirmed that legendary rapper DMX – real name Earl Simmons – died after falling into a cocaine-induced coma.

The death of DMX on April 9th saw the music industry unite in grief at yet another tragic premature loss of a character who lit up the world with his explosive material and extraordinary personality. The rapper was just 50-years-old when he passed away at White Sails Hospital in New York after falling into intensive care following a cardiac arrest on April 2nd.

A source from the Westchester County medical examiner’s office has now confirmed the cause of his death to Vulture. “It was cardiac arrest for a period of time, so there was no circulation to the brain,” the source told the publication, and indicated that cocaine “caused this chain of events.”

They state that “an analysis of Simmons’s urine showed the presence of cocaine”. “His death literally happened immediately because the brain was dead,” the source added.

“So obviously, there were a number of days where he was on ventilatory support and so forth in the hospital,” the source continued. “However, he was diagnosed brain-dead early on … He never woke up from [a] coma.”

Following his death, his family lovingly said: “Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart, and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world, and his iconic legacy will live on forever.”
