Def Jam covered the costs of DMX's funeral

The sad loss of DMX is still being felt to this day. The images of the late rapper’s funeral were not only heartwarming but awe-inspiring. The Ruff Ryder performer saw a gigantic procession take place before a service was conducted.

It was an impressive send-off for Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons, whose art and healing words had touched so many before his death at 50. Despite the gravity of the situation, the funeral cost was a growing concern for those who understood Simmons’ position at the time of his death.

Reports from TMZ have now suggested that the bill for Simmons’ funeral was covered by his record label, Def Jam. The bill from Brooks Memorial Home Inc. in Yonkers, New York, was estimated at over $35,000.

Def Jam released the following statement after the announcement of DMX’s death was made public: “Def Jam Recordings and the extended Def Jam family of artists, executives and employees are deeply and profoundly saddened by the loss of our brother Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons.

“DMX was a brilliant artist and an inspiration to millions around the world. His message of triumph over struggle, his search for the light out of darkness, his pursuit of truth and grace brought us closer to our own humanity.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who loved him and were touched by him. DMX was nothing less than a giant. His legend will live on forever.”
