DMX’s son calls out rapper’s fiancée at Yonkers street-naming ceremony
The son of DMX has called out the rapper’s fiancée during a street-naming ceremony.
The Yonkers rapper passed away in 2021 at the age of 50, but his memory continues to live on through tributes.
Over the weekend, the city of Yonkers renamed the corner of School Street and Brooke Street as “Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons Way.”
The street can be found near the Calcagno Homes, the public housing where DMX grew up. Members of his family took to the stage to mark the occasion, including his eldest son, Xavier Simmons, who is 34.
While speaking to the crowd, he said, “There is absolutely no way that you will close this ceremony and we will not hear from his original entire family,” before inviting his mother, Tashera Simmons, to stand alongside him.
Xavier appeared on stage following DMX’s fiancée, Desiree Lindstrom, who is the co-administrator of his estate alongside his daughter, Sasha.
He praised Tashera in the street-naming process before targeting Desiree. “Desiree Lindstrom, you have behaved dishonourably. The fact that you continue to exclude his original family…” he said, before his microphone was cut off.
He continued, “The fact that my mother and father built this empire from the ground up. Like, the city loves us. We will always be remembered in this city. Now, thank you to the city of Yonkers. And thank you for being here today.”
Following the event, Tashera took to social media to respond to the events that took place. “Right y’all, I’mma do it one time,” she said. “I’mma be messy one time. Did my son expose these devils? They’ve been exposed. Come on. Y’all know DMX. Y’all know Tashera. We built the DMX legacy together. There is no X without Tashera.”
She added, “The fact that they came to my hometown and did not want us to be recognised. I’mma let y’all sit with that one.””
