DJ Akadmeiks is one of hip-hop’s most controversial commentators. Figures such as Charlemagne Tha God and Joe Budden have always been outspoken and highly opinionated. However, Akademiks has made a lot of enemies during his career as a personality and podcaster, and earlier this year, he slammed neo-soul singer Erykah Badu for an exchange they had on the Complex YouTube series ‘Everyday Struggle.’
In August 2023, Canadian singer Tory Lanez was officially sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020 by a Los Angeles federal judge. However, one rumour circulating the internet shortly after was that DJ Akademiks had been leaking information about Lanez during the high-profile case.
Unfortunately, this disinformation culminated in one Instagram user prompting Erykah Badu to “work her magic” on Akademiks by cursing him. The Jamaican-born personality caught wind of this comment and, in a live stream on the platform Twitch, decided to address the Dallas singer, but it quickly turned ugly.
The two figures had previously met on the Complex YouTube series ‘Everyday Struggle’, which featured Akademiks as a co-host. During the 2017 interview, the vocalist humorously highlighted that the podcaster resembled Jerry, the mouse from Tom & Jerry. At the time, Akademiks took it lightly.
However, the post urging Badu to “work her magic” on him recently resurfaced on his stream, and he slammed the singer, calling her “an old-ass h*e,” but this was just the beginning.
The podcaster continued, screaming, Erykah Badu, let me tell you this: you keep my name out your mouth too. Listen, that little ‘Everyday Struggle’ sh*t, that was another era, my n*gga. I’m down to violate all you n*ggas these days. F*ck what y’all got going on. You don’t mention my name, please. I don’t f*ck with you neither.”
He continued, “I never f*cked with Erykah Badu after she was tryna come on my show and be funny. Bitch, I don’t f*ck with you after that. N*gga, wassup now? What we finna do? Bitch, you a old-ass h*e, just keep getting f*cked by all these young n*ggas…How many rappers done ran through you?—You was trying to f*ck with and suck up XXXTENTACION.”
Badu responded with an Instagram video stating, “I learned today that something I said five years ago in jest when we all laughed actually triggered someone’s deep-rooted trauma. They kept it bottled up, and it hurt them so bad. Had ’em out in these streets acting real pu**y!”
