Akademiks hits out at Drake, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar for ignoring "the culture"

Akademiks has spoken out against Drake, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar for ignoring “the culture” now they have achieved mainstream success.

The social media sensation’s rant occurred after Cole recently gave his first face-to-face interview in many years with ESPN’s Bob Myers, which angered Akademiks. In the discussion, Cole said: “At six years old, I was smoking cigarettes, regularly around the neighborhood. The thing was, my brother’s almost four years older than me. I was always hanging around the older kids in the neighborhood that he was hanging around.”

On his stream, Akademiks weighed into the debate. “Let me just say this, J. Cole and the rest of them rappers, no wonder you get shitted on by hip-hop outlets, you all get so big in the game,” Akademiks said before claiming he didn’t need these huge names on his platform. “They use the culture, use these blogs, I know a lot of journalists in the game who won’t speak up because they still hope to get an interview.”

Akademiks noted how Kendrick Lamar’s recent press appearances have been with Spotify, and W Magazine, which both avoided the big questions. He also hit out at Drake, and said these rappers are choosing “white boy conversations” over hip-hop outlets.

Last year, the controversial media figure claimed: “When I say Drake is the best rapper ever, I’m not talking about just rapping. “I think he’s seeing the game, and doing all of the necessary things to capitalise and be at the top.”
