Dizzee Rascal found guilty of assaulting ex-partner

Grime pioneer Dizzee Rascal has been found guilty of assaulting his former fiancé.

The rapper, whose real name is Dylan Mills, was found guilty at Wimbledon Magistrates Court yesterday following an event last June. He was initially placed on bail before being charged on August 2nd.

Last year, Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident and said: “Officers attended and a woman reported minor injuries. She did not require hospital treatment.”

In September, Mills appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court and denied all charges. At the hearing, he denied “pushing his head into the complainant’s head and pushing her to the floor” at an address in Streatham on June 8th.

Then in February, Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court were told that Mills allegedly “barged” his way into the residence on the night of the event.
He was said to have put his forehead against his ex-fiancé, Cassandra Jones, and then “pushed her to the ground.”

Furthermore, the court was told the assault happened in “the context of a domestic dispute” after Mills dropped his daughter off at the property.

Jones claimed he became “out of control” and “nearly dropped” their son. She alleged he “put his forehead on my forehead and he pushed me around the room” but didn’t describe the assault as a “headbutt”.

Prosecutor Helena Duong claimed Mills “became very angry and started acting erratically, banging his head three times on the fridge with his son in his arms.” Following the verdict, Mills snatched a camera from a Press Association photographer outside the court and smashed it by throwing it in the road.

He will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on April 8th.
