Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs rejected opportunity to settle Cassie lawsuit privately

Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs had the chance to settle Cassie Ventura’s lawsuit against him, which involved rape and other physical abuse before the allegations went public. However, he reportedly decided not to take any action.

A new podcast series called The Rise and Fall of Diddy claims that Ventura gave Combs the option to settle things before the whole world knew about his alleged misconduct.

“She came to him before she filed [any] lawsuit and said, ‘I believed I was wronged by you,’” attorney and legal commentator Donte Mills says on the show, according to The Guardian. “And she gave him an opportunity to settle the case before she brought [a] lawsuit.”

She continued, “And I know that both Sean Combs’ attorneys and Cassie’s attorneys were in conversation, in talks, to see if they can resolve the lawsuit, but they were not able to and those settlement negotiations fell through.”

By not agreeing to settle things behind closed doors, Cassie filed a lawsuit against Combs in November 2023, accusing him of physically, mentally and emotionally her, just hours before the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act. She also claimed that Combs made her have sex with male sex workers, with the acts recorded on video.

“After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships,” she told The New York Times after filing the lawsuit.

A day later, Combs finally took action by agreeing to pay an undisclosed amount to settle Ventura’s claims out of court. Despite that, Combs was then met with wave after wave of similar allegations. He’s now facing dozens of lawsuits while currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn as he awaits his trial for sex trafficking and racketeering charges. He has pled not guilty, denying all accusations of wrongdoing.

Combs was denied bail for a third time last week due to a “serious risk” of witness tampering. US district judge Arun Subramanian stated, “The court finds that the government has shown by clear and convincing evidence that no condition or combination of conditions will reasonably assure the safety of the community.”

His lawyers offered a $50 million bail package that promised to make sure he didn’t flee or intimidate other potential trial witnesses, but Subramanian said that “there is compelling evidence of Combs’ propensity for violence.”

The first of three episodes of The Rise and Fall of Diddy, produced by Law&Crime Network, will be released on December 4th. Hosted by Jesse Weber, the series is said to “uncover how Combs built an empire that shaped a generation while navigating a trail of scandals, lawsuits, and criminal allegations.”
