Did Rick Ross just ditch Montreal show to play in Nashville?
Maybach Music founder Rick Ross has recently been at the centre of some controversy after cancelling an appearance at a Montreal festival. Initially, the reasons for the cancellation were unknown. However, some new information has come to light.
On June 15th, the Miami emcee was set to hit the main stage of Montreal’s Mural Festival, but shortly before his appearance, fans were made aware that for ambiguous “personal reasons”, the ‘Hustlin’ rapper would not be performing.
The reasons were highly unclear, but strangely, on the date he was meant to be performing in Montreal, Ross was spotted at the Blavity House Party Music Festival in Nashville, where he appeared as a surprise guest.
Shortly after the announcement, the Mural Festival sent attendees a statement reading, “For personal reasons, Rick Ross has made the decision to cancel his performance at the Festival. In the coming days, we will provide a full refund of the daily tickets you purchased or a partial refund of Weekend 2 Passes and Festival Passes if applicable,”
When the news was posted on social media by MtlFlex TV, fans began speculating about why he wasn’t able to attend the festival. One Instagram user wrote, “DJ Akademiks said Rick Ross banned from Canada after dissing Drake.” Although this was a doubtful reason, many believed it to be true.
Another user suggested a potential reason, writing, “[He] cancelled his show because of the law 101 he didn’t want to convert his name in French.” Regarding Drake, Ross entered the beef Drake had with Kendrick Lamar after the Toronto rapper aimed at him on his diss track ‘Push Ups (Drop & Give Me Fifty)’.
Following the song’s release in April, Rick Ross released ‘Champagne Moments,’ a relatively weak diss track aimed at Drake, accusing him of getting cosmetic surgery and more.
The Mural Festival isn’t the only live event Ross has recently canceled. The lyricist also holds an annual car show in Atlanta. However, after tickets went on sale, he cancelled the event. He received backlash but laughed off the complaints on Instagram afterwards.
