Did Gucci Mane really stop an armed robbery while he was naked?
Gucci Mane has had his fair share of disagreements over the years, and whether it’s in music or in the streets, aggression is not alien to him. In fact, the Atlanta rapper knows about crime more than most, and during his career, he has told numerous stories of run-ins he has had with killers, law enforcement, drug lords, and more. However, there is one highly dubious claim he has made that has not been verified.
In 2005, while he had one foot in the Atlanta streets and one foot in the music industry, Gucci Mane was at the centre of a media firestorm after it was alleged that he was involved in the killing of Henry Lee Clark III. Gucci has asserted that a woman lured him to her bedroom for sex and, while naked and unarmed, he managed to fend off armed robbers, one of whom was Jeezy’s close friend Clark, also known as Pookie Loc.
However, Gucci Mane’s former manager, Deb Antney, who runs Mizay Entertainment, a well-known Atlanta management company, has a different view on what happened in 2005. She has been insistent that Gucci Mane’s story is a misrepresentation of what happened. Furthermore, she believes he uses the falsified events to boost his street cred.
During an appearance on the Ugly Money Podcast, Antney addressed the story directly and suggested that Gucci Mane stop talking about it as he is now a father. While talking about the controversial death of Pookie Loc, Antney spoke directly to Gucci, stating, “Technically, you really didn’t kill anybody! All these kids think that you’re the number one killer, so let’s stop talking about it because now you’re a dad. You got two sons.”
Antney spoke about the influence Gucci Mane could be having on his children by continuing to talk about killing, stating, “Think about your kids looking at you a certain kind of way off something that’s fictitious. It was done for rap.” When asked to clarify whether Gucci Mane was behind Pookie Loc’s death, Antney responded, “No!”
Gucci’s former manager spoke about the death of Pookie Loc following the announcement by Gucci Mane and Jeezy in 2020 that they were squashing their beef after years, and the former foes performed their classic song ‘Icy’ together onstage.
The evidence that Gucci Mane fended off some armed robbers naked is sparse and little. Due to the sheer fact that Gucci Mane is a free man, it is doubtful that he killed anyone with regard to the death of Pookie Loc. Deb Antney is certainly sure that the Atlanta emcee played no part in his death.
The case against Gucci Mane was dropped due to lack of evidence and, but the rapper has referenced the death of Pookie Loc several times in his music. On his scathing Jeezy diss ‘The Truth’, he raps, “Go dig your partner up, ni**a, bet he can’t say sh*t” and has also made jokes about “smoking on Pookie Loc.”
Still, although it could be possible, it is doubtful that Gucci Mane was able to stop three armed robbers from killing him while unarmed and naked, and his involvement in Loc’s death was, if anything, minimal.
