Detroit rapper Sada Baby to stand trial in drug case

Detroit rapper Sada Baby (real name Casada Sorrell) is heading to trial after waiving his preliminary exam hearing.

The 33-year-old has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance less than 25 grams.

At a probable cause hearing on December 11th, he waived his rights to a preliminary exam. The charge he’s facing is a four-year felony, stemming from a traffic stop that occurred in January.

According to CBS News, Sterling Heights police arrested him on an outstanding warrant for a previous arrest for driving without a license.

Officers claim that they found a bag of pills in the driver’s side door pocket, containing oxycodone hydrochloride and acetaminophen.

In a statement, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said, “Illicit narcotics pose a serious threat to the safety and well-being of our community. When an individual chooses to possess these substances, they endanger lives and contribute to the cycle of addiction that affects families across our county.”

He continued, “In Macomb County, this conduct will not be tolerated. Our office will continue to pursue these cases aggressively and hold offenders fully accountable under the law.”

Sada is charged as a third-time habitual offender, which could make a difference to his sentence if convicted. However, a date for his arraignment is yet to be announced.

The rapper has over 986,000 monthly Spotify listeners and 488,000 Instagram followers. His biggest songs, ‘Whole Lotta Choppas’ and ‘Pressin’, which features the late King Von, each have 59 million and 52 million streams on Spotify.

He released his debut album, Skuba Sada 2, under Warner Music Group’s Asylum Records label in March 2020. His last mixtape, Skuba Sada 2.5, dropped in June 2022.
