Denzel Curry shares new single ‘Bad Luck’

Denzel Curry has got dark on his heavy new single, ‘Bad Luck’, which appears on the forthcoming soundtrack for the DC Comics series Dark Nights: Death Metal.

The track sees Curry link up with collaborator PlayThatBoiZay. The pair take it in turns to spit over ferocious drums and metal-style guitars. ‘Bad Luck’ is a left turn for Curry, but one that he makes work and the chance to step out of his comfort zone is one that the rapper has grasped with both hands.

“I was in the studio one day with Zay [PlayThatBoiZay] and Kwesi [Kwes Darko], and Zay had this idea to do a rock record,” Curry commented. “At first I wasn’t really with it, my fans been wanting me to try it for a while but I honestly don’t want to be looked at as ‘the rock guy’ or be put in a box for my art, you know?”

He continued: “I have this motto that I use in the studio, though, of ‘shoot first, ask questions later,’ so after a few convos we called up my homie Spencer [Pollard] from Trash Talk and made it happen. Some of you might love it and some might even hate it. For us, it was an experiment.”

Curry has drawn inspiration from the Dark Nights: Death Metal comics, and for the track, the rapper takes on the persona of villain, The Darkfather. The official soundtrack is due for release June 18 through DC/Loma Vista. Meanwhile, Curry appears as The Darkfather on a variant cover of Dark Nights: Death Metal #3.
